Recently noticed on a mobile device that a color border on two sides has been added to most all my listings. The main question is why? to what purpose does this serve when I am selling art for the most part with a color mat that is pictured already? Now people are going to look at the main photo..associate it with the art and think it has that color mat that comes with the Artwork which is not so on quite a few listings now!!
Going to cause total confusion when they look at the main photo with a blue border or whatever color they put in that coincides with the art on two sides and the next picture in the photos has a yellow mat!
It is not like this on a desktop..only mobile.. desktop still has the white border around the main photo which makes more sense than a color that has nothing to do with the listing!
Not all my listings have a mat available but nevertheless I feel it just confuses the mind on what I am offering and how it is viewed..definitely going to be calling eBay to get this in order and if it is something I have done somehow or opted into or missed in the newest update..

I spent a bit of time on the eBay App and looking at images shown in search results where the colour matching is creating a detrimental problem and detracting from the quality of the product image
When I find that image on the eBay website and copy the image to check the size, the images where colour matching does not create a problem are square so the product is on the Sellers chosen background colour
Where the Seller has an image that is not square, then the colour matching creates a problem and the problem varies. If the image is a rectangle and there is a white surround to the product, the eBay App creates a colour that is a mix of the colours found in the image, so it can be a varying shade of the colours in the image. In many listings the background colour does not enhance the image but detracts from the product image. Where the image does not have a white background and is a rectangle, the colour matching makes the rectangle square which changes the product.
So all Sellers who do not have a square image have their product image degraded to varying extents and quite often the colour matching creates a background colour to surround the image which does not enhance the product image and detracts from the appearance of the item / product, particularly when it comes to items such as paintings
In my view the problem is more serious than eBay appear to consider based on their replies to me
Without eBay removing the colour matching which is pointless, unnecessary and creating a background that seldom enhances the image, the only solution is to change all images to be larger and square.
Larger square images have to be slower to download and consume more data – that in my view is bad design

Thanks for the post. The mobile apps have had this color background for many years, this is not a new change. We appreciate the feedback about this and how it works with your listings. We will pass this feedback over to our search and item teams that use the matching background.

Until recently I always changed to the desktop view on my mobile device because I did not like and still do not like the mobile view that well and its much easier for me to edit and find some information in desktop view!
Here is one NEW reason I am seeing why I do not like it and looks as though my listings are being tampered with and changed by someone..but not me and can be construed as false or basically a lie!
screenshots of item # 223515731384
1. First picture on mobile device app on android (main photo) has a dijon type color on the left and right sides. Why cannot this be either blank or the actual mat color which is creme? Are these colors generated at random or is someone actually creating the HTML for the listing ..because if so why wouldn't they use a creme border that is in the second picture or are they looking at the pictures?
2. Second picture on mobile device app of this listing has the actual creme color mat with the artwork. I do not crop all pictures down to just the mat and art..simply because I take a lot of pictures at a slight angle to deter people from taking screenshots and want potential buyers to see all the corners clearly of the mat when zoomed in!
3. Third picture I talked about above with tampering issue and can be construed as a lie since if someone buys another sellers art of the same size at a lower price than mine then they are not saving anything and furthermore does having the word SAVE 22 times in the beginning of a description help me sell the item somehow? IDK but it's a turn off when I look at it. When I go online to buy something I want to see in the description information on what the item is and what I am buying not SAVE SAVE SAVE.. which I did not write or add into the description!
4. Fourth picture is my actual description in the listing which says "Art comes with one 11x14" color mat pictured above for framing purposes" So if potential buyer views the main photo only from a mobile device and reads the description then arrows back all they see is the dijon colored border on left and right of listing! See how that could cause confusion to a buyer and also if they buy and get the product with a creme mat which is what they would get and not a dijon color they may never shop for my art again or file item not as pictured or described?
I guess I will have to go in and revise almost all listings to make sure all art with mat are the main photo..that may help even though the second picture on mobile devices will more than likely have a different color border that has nothing to do with the listing or the mat? I will also have to revise most everything to add the actual color in words inside the description since some only have the size of the mat and the word mat in the listing..not beige or maroon or whatever the case for that listing.
Only other option I see to take the color top and bottom or left and right side edges is to crop my pictures into a square which will most likely not work well since I do not make square art sizes. If so I would need to know what pixel size the eBay photos go by?
I could try to do this but need a response back.
I called about this issue yesterday and was told I would get a call back..and did not get a call back yesterday!

My suggestion is write to ootpuk@ebay.com which is the Office of the President
I have but they appear to think that the colour matching problem is isolated and specific to my images only, which is clearly not true when you search on the App for a variety of items
Other affected Sellers with images that are impaired by colour matching and made pointless as the product the image is about is no longer clear due to the colour matching, should take it up with eBay at a higher level as no one at eBay appears to be concerned with reading the Forums
