Hi everyone, I had a listing end tonight, https://www.ebay.com/itm/264454865597 and while I am very happy about the outcome, I am kind of driving myself crazy wondering why? Why did this go so high? I'm not complaining, the buyer already paid, but I'm kind of nervous about the whole thing. Am I missing something on the marks, is it by some super famous designer that I don't know of? The sterling mark is pretty worn, and it has the number 5215 marked as well. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks for the help, like always!!

Looks to me that there were a couple of enthusiastic bidders who were determined to win at any cost. Good old fashioned bidding war.
I don't recognize the number as being connected to any particularly desirable company. Maybe someone else will have more insight. At any rate, congrats on getting a good price for your auction!

Take the money and run, christine! Just kidding, but that was a great sale! I don't recognize the maker, but somebody knew something!

Ditto what they said. Congrats!

No idea here either, but great sale, congratulations on that.
The high bidder has lots of feedback and was the first bidder. This is reassuring because it was not an impulse last minute bid and the buyer had lots of time to check things out. Also there was not just a bidding war between 2, but quite a few bidders put in bids, and these bidders had high feedback numbers, also a good sign.
The profile/side view of the dragonfly is interesting, not the usual orientation, so maybe that was a factor.
I wish I knew, because I suspect it is probably a sleeper. But at this final price maybe not so much as the original bidders had hoped!
I do know though that dragonflies always do well, and they literally fly off the shelf!

Thanks everyone! After some more digging (and more digging,) I found the answer. I think it was a Boucher. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vtg-marcel-boucher-gold-plate-1853865091 & http://www.jewelrypatents.com/patent.php?id=126903 Well, I'm glad that two other people knew this even when I didn't! Anyone on here subscribe to worthpoint to let me know what I missed out on? At least this is a good reminder to do your homework!!

Thanks for the update re it being Boucher and hope you can get an idea of the value.
I went back to look at the bidding and see that I was wrong, it really was a war between two bidders in the end, the other high bidder dropped out at a very low amount soon in the game.
So interesting that these sleepers are found … must be some real eagle eyes out there.

Excellent detective work, Christine!!!

What's interesting is that yours sold for almost $50 more than the one on Worthpoint, yet that one was in better condition. Congratulations on the 1000 feedbacks, by the way .

Thanks Dream! I'm glad the one on worthpoint didn't sell for like thousands of dollars! And thanks about the feedback. Funny thing, I was going to give a coupon or something to the buyer that left me the 1000th good feedback, but it ended up being a seller. I guess I just have to give it to the next buyer that leaves feedback, 😄
