Prelisting Authentication for Coach Items?

Hi, I have 2 Coach purses and a wallet I purchased from coach.com and never used. I would like to list them, but have been reading on the boards that many sellers are having their listings for authentic Coach items removed due to authentication problems. In several cases, they've also received selling restrictions. I would like to avoid a similar scenario. Is there a way to have my items authenticated prior to listing them that will prevent them from being removed? Thanks so much!

Absolutely. If we verify that theyre genuine you can still get a basic Authenticate4U authentication as a backup. But if theyre actually fake theres no sense in spending any money to confirm it. Just be sure that the members giving their opinions here are experienced in Coach authentications. Wait until Alberta has posted, and there are a few other Coach experts whose opinions are accurate.

Sometimes inexperienced members will jump in and give opinions based on some nonsense they found online, and you dont want to decide whether or not to list an item based on that kind of flawed opinion. Most online "guides" are unreliable and sometimes dangerous. There are a handful of relaible ones posted here at Ebay but only an expert can tell the difference.

You can but I'm not sure it's worth it based on selling prices of Coach.

Yikes, this is a tough one. Because ebay is so inconsistent in its actions, it's hard to say why or what listings trigger a removal so prevention is also inconsistent.

For a basic authentication, you can pay $7.50 to authenticate4u and get a PDF doc attesting to authenticity. You can also state in your listing that the bag was "professionally authenticated by (name of company). You can verify by contacting them with a link to this listing."

Often that's all that's needed to reassure buyers what they see is what they'll get and it's authentic and it's also helpful to you as the seller because you can rest easy knowing that your listing complies with federal trademark law.

As for authentic listings being removed and accounts sanctioned, it's helpful when posters come here and post about it. Then there's black-and white evidence of what happened and when made aware, ebay can look in to it. But I think it's something that can't be completely prevented, just as the sale of fakes can't be prevented even if we do our best to report as many counterfeit items as possible.

IMO, posting here to verify that your items are indeed authentic is probably enough to feel comfortable enough to list your items. There are cases where items have exceptions to "rules," or missing parts that might make it a good idea to talk to a pro, but generally, for Coach pricepoint, I wouldn't pay for a professional.

Others might have other insight to offer.
