Getting scammed on a return

I don't know what to do or who to contact. I had a person buy a product which he and I corresponded no less than 20 times prior to his purchase. He is trying to return it for not being as listed yet the listing is VERY clear and the messages back and forth clarify that he without a doubt knew what exactly was coming in the sale. The buyer then changed his story to me that it doesn't work yet it was new when shipped and it was tested prior to listing. I fear that he is going to send me back his old broken unit and I will get duped by this buyer and end up with an unsellable item. I don't know who to contact at eBay or how to contact them

Please advise me what to do.

Getting scammed on a return

Hi @oklahoma_advantage

In Retail sales you Accept the return and yes, he could very easily send back something other than what he purchased.  That is a common scam.  Your Seller Protections (link below) will help cut your losses in situations like that ... up to 50% of the item price and the original shipping the Buyer paid.  We've had that happen as have many Sellers.  If it's the $ 489 Eccotemp unit you will be able to retain half of that unless they return the original item in the same condition you shipped it in ... complete with ALL the parts.

You can also use the Report Buyer link on the Sold item.  Talking to eBay will not change anything listed here ...

I would go to the messaging and get ebay to call you and explain everything from start to finish, and encourage them to look at your messages back and forth (yes, they can do that too!).... get the story down, and they will protect you.  They will advise you to go ahead and accept the return, sure, but you will already have all of this documented, so when you do receive what you fear you are going to receive, they can see ahead of time that you already reported this as a possible scenario of what is going on.... In the past, I have had CS agents close the returns without refunding the buyer anything, because they sent me back the wrong item.  One case was a buyer bought like $100.00 worth of scrap gold, and he filed a return saying one item wasn't real (it was real!), and when he sent me the return, he sent me a single earring (that was not part of the original lot that I sold him!).  So I worked with Customer Service through all of this, and they ended up closing the return and not allowing him to get a refund from me....   But if you don't work with eBay from the get go, you won't know what is and is not possible.

There is no one to contact. If you ask eBay for help after the buyer wants to return it you will get a defect for a case unresolved by the seller and eBay's decision is they usually refund and tell them they don't have to return it.
