Can I buy or sell a digital scanned copy of a postcard that is 120 years old? Some people want images only for family tree purposes, and they don't need or want the actual physical item.

You also have to ask yourself how many people are likely to want to buy a scan of a postcard without having seen it. Whereas if you include a photo of the postcard in the listing, who needs the scan?

Right. Once you've posted a photo or scan, the potential buyer has what he or she needs unless the photo/scan is somehow made unclear but clear enough to be recognizable and marketable.
