What happens if a bid for my item surpasses my monthly limit?

I have an Ideal Revlon VT-25 (25 inch) doll I want to list. If I start this at (insert price) and bids surpass my $5000.00 monthly limit what would happen?

According to a renowned source on the subject (Joan Hancock Dow- my.pclink.com/~jjdow/index.html ) she only knows of 4 of these dolls and suggests there are no more than a dozen in existence, so, IMHO, there would be a chance that this could exceed my limit 5K limit.

I don't want to list it if the bidding will be cut off once my limit is reached.

Thank you all for your help and knowledge.

Tom

Bidding would continue, and the item would be sold for whatever price the bidding reaches.

You have listing limits, there is no limit on what you can sell items for.

Thanks for replying lacemaker3.

I hope you are correct, but my page seems to say something different. It says I have a monthly total limit of $5000 in sales.

"Currently, you can sell up to 100 items per month, and your total monthly sales can be up to $5,000.00."

Thanks,

Tom

Lacemaker3 is right: you can relax. The bidding won't be cut off, and you'll receive the full amount of the sale.

The confusion is understandable, as eBay uses the words sell  and sales  rather than the words list  and listings:

"Currently, you can sell up to 100 items per month, and your total monthly sales can be up to $5,000.00."

I agree, the wording could certainly be clearer. But it's definitely the starting price that counts:

"AmountLimitRemaining [...]
The total value of the items listed price that this seller can list. This amount is the total of the prices specified upon listing. For example, for fixed price listings, this is the total of the fixed price amounts. For auction listings, this is the total of the starting prices. The seller will be unable to list an item if the amount of the item's fixed price or starting price (for auctions) exceeds the amount limit. This is part of the seller limit, which can be increased by requesting an increase from eBay using the "Request higher selling limits" link in the All Selling section of My eBay. (Under "Selling Limits".) Notice that the quantity limit (see QuantityLimitRemaining) may be reached before the amount limit is reached."

Agreed.  I was just noting that eBay's language has doubtless confused, and maybe alarmed, more than one seller.

Surely, in ordinary English usage, "total monthly sales" would mean the total amount of money a seller received in transactions with buyers, in a one-month period, not the total amount of money the seller asked for all goods or services offered during that period.

If the a seller with a selling limit of $5000 starts an auction at $1 and the item sells for $10,000, they would get to keep the money. However, I don't think  they would then be able to make any further listings that month, because they would have exceeded their monthly sales limit. (I might be wrong about that, but it would make sense of the wording).
