Hey ebayers, I am trying to appraise this piece for my mom. Similar pieces listed under metamorphic furniture / bakers table. Any ideas on where to start? Has a wingnut that when loosened allows it to fold down into a table. I've seen these sell for a pretty wide range on here. I believe its 19th century just based on the fact it came into the family in my great grandparent's age.

It's important to consider only actual "sold" prices, not just asking prices. There is one listed on ebay now that looks very similar to yours but in a bit better shape. I'd watch it and see what it sells for and use that as a guide. Or check others like yours that have sold and take an average.

I wouldn't lead with metemorphic but rather call it what it is, an antique steel/wood folding rack. I've seen many of these over the years. Do you have any proof that it was called a metemorphic baker's rack? I found none on ebay. A few listings but those are for rocks. Metamorphic is the correct spelling anyway. I was in a rundown greenhouse once fitted with these racks. Might as well just call it a transformative, compartmentalized device for displaying unknown objects. Could have been used as a folding flower market display with vendor's station built-in to the design. Good luck!

Also, do you have a picture of it actually used as a table? Maybe I missed it.

Fair point, I can't believe I misspelled it! Those were just the search terms "metamorphic" and "baker's rack" that I used that actually found similar pieces listed. I honestly did not know what terms to use to find similar piecees.
That is interesting, I wonder if it came from a greenhouse as some of the marks on the wood could be about the size of a flower pot?

Thanks for the feedback! This is why I like to start with the ebay community!

Also no, the storage unit was very tight. I agree, would be best to get one with it fully expanded before listing

Wow, what a great antique!
I would flip to have inherited that and especially love that yours looks more used and worn than the other listing. I would promote it as double-duty furniture for small spaces.
Have you thought of consigning it to an antique store? Depending on the deal, you may end up with more than if you sold here. Don't sell it short.
