Some people have said they get results here, where you can upload the picture and ask other members for a translation:

https://www.reddit.com/r/translator/

Also, Indiana University has large East Asian Languages and Cultures department, so you might send an email to someone there to ask for help:

https://ealc.indiana.edu/

By the way, I'd say it's Japanese.

Your best results for the identification of this work is Asian Art Forums! (that's my second home!) David.

The costumes are definitely Chinese, not Japanese.

I was told by a colleague who spoke and wrote Japanese fluently (had worked in Japan for years, and was married to a Japanese woman) that the Kanji characters used to write Japanese are the same as the characters used for Chinese. He said that he could read Chinese writing, even though he didn't speak the language. The characters represent concepts, not sounds.

I didn't know there was a Chinese script so close to the Japanese, there are several Chinese scripts and I don't read any of them, but they are different as Times New Roman is to the Gothic script used in German Bibles, maybe more so. -but my mistake.

The robes look Chinese as the general painting style, but I was going on the subject, which is close to the Japanese ukiyo domestic scenes and the Japanese symbols I recognized.

Yes, I know what kanji is, and hanja, too, but obviously don't know clothing, hairstyles, and the like.   Smiley Happy  I'm glad to be corrected and I hope OP returns to the thread and reads through it.

Thank you for all of the information everyone! I’m not sure why I don’t get a notification when people respond to my posts. I would have responded earlier. Seems as if I need to take this elsewhere to figure out what it says. The reason I thought it was Korean was because it was framed by  eddy Chang’s co according to the sticker on back of the frame. Since someone thought it was important enough to have it framed I am thinking it could be something significant. Thanks again all

I've had Notifications and other settings go wonky, too, and revert to defaults.  Anyhow, to check:   Sign in.  Click on your own user name on the board (any post you've made).  Then it's   My Settings > Subscriptions & Notifications > Notification Settings.
