The characters appear to match Genzan:

It's the mark of Yagi Gentaro, who started Yagi Genzan-do in 1921. He was a Kutani retailer / merchant in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. The shop still operates by his family.

I believe maxine*j vertically flipped the image vertically instead of rotating it.  It should look like this:

What do you mean by "board"?

Looks like Japanese Satsuma to me (not an expert).

Yes, I think it's Japanese Satsuma, as -palmtreelucky- said.   But I'm not positive.

The character is, of course, Chinese, used in the kanji Japanese writing system.  It is "mountain," and is sometimes pronounced more like "shan" in Chinese.

This website is a great resource. The motif on your plate is maple tree branches. I would say 1930s or earlier, based on what I have seen in the past.

I think it can also have the sound "yama" in Japanese (in some contexts), at least if I understand correctly. (Not that it really helps here).

Yes, and I don't know enough to know when / why it's pronounced one way or the other.  Mount Fuji is Fujisan and Mount Haku is Hakusan, but Mount Tate is Tateyama and Mount Asama ia Asamayama.  They're all written with the same 山.

And maybe it is relevant here.  Asian languages are far beyond me.  I just thought it would help to show the mark in the correct orientation and thought I should explain why I was flipping it.
