Can anyone tell me what this silver object is? Maybe for a candle? I cannot find any marks on it yet but it polishes nicely and is non magnetic.

It could be for a lamp. Knowing measurements would help. It is impossible to know the size from your photos.

It measures 10" tall and 3 1/4" at the widest point

It could be something like these in the link, but missing the glass hurricane insert .....or it could be something else entirely.

Caged glass vase missing the glass? In other words, this is just the cage, with the glass having broken and been removed.
Or maybe its an umbrella stand. As Rita says, we're missing essential information; namely, the size.

She says 10" x 3 1/4", so not for umbrellas.

Sorry. Missed that. Only saw the OP when I posted. The lag-time is really getting to me.

yes, possibly but it is real silver, just not sure at this point if it is silver plate or sterling but guessing silver plate.

Has it been acid tested? How can you be sure it isn't e.g. alpaca/nickel silver, as opposed to genuine silver or silver plate? Best to stick to "silver tone" in any description, if the item is untested and unmarked.

It's a production piece of some sort so there would be silver marks telling you if it were actually real silver. I think this is simply "decor". Maybe used with other similar pieces as a centerpiece or on a mantle or on a bookshelf. You see stuff like this in the thrift stores on a regular basis.

It tested as sterling when rubbed on a stone and then put 18k acid on it, however I did not cut into it so not sure if it is accurate. It is definitely not cheap aluminum or tin.
