Any antique silver pros know what kind of Forbes cup this is? The  beautifully ornate lid is indented about 1/3”. Another item is the monogram. I believe the first letter is a  “J”and the last is a “K”, but I’m not sure the middle. This could be my great-

grandfather’s piece depending on the middle initial. Is it wise to remove the tarnish/patina?

I kindly thank anyone who may offer information or direct me to where I might find it.

Silver plated shaving mug.

I think the monogram is J P K .  The closest font I could find was Kunstler Script (in PowerPoint).image.png

Edit: as @smiling66 suggested below, it now appears t hat J S K is a better match.

on silverplate like this (particular quad plate) there is usually little or no silver left so polishing it my just yield base metal copper. what it is depends on the size

Shaving mug makes total sense. Interesting font you added; if the middle initial is a “P” after all, this did not belong to my great-grandfather. I was hoping it was an “S” 😊

I think the middle initial is an S and not a P.

Look at the S and the P on this linked Kunstler Script page.

To be honest, I just guessed that it was a P and didn't try any other letters. Now that you suggest an S, that does make a better match. So I will agree with @smiling66 at this point!

Wow! Then it is my great-grandfather’s, his middle name was Simon. Thank you so, so much!
