10 April 2024- Greetings to all coin, token, and paper money collectors, where-ever you might be. (Attention: This note IS NOT FOR SALE). Another interesting note from the small collection purchased by Heron
2nd half of 2023:
S.A. = Duchy of Sachsen-Altenburg years 1602 to Nov 1918.
The Pleisse River and the Blue Flood River flow through Altenburg.
The word Altenburg translates to "Old Castle" in English.
Type: Emergency Money Gutschein.
Note Size: 138mm X 92mm.
Attention: This note IS NOT FOR SALE.
The letter 'Z' of the word zehn (for 10) is the most elaborate Gothic
design Heron has ever seen. The large Z design takes up about 20%
of the note. There is a very Nice Photo at Numista site.
At about the middle of this note is a handstamped circle with a design of Coat of Arms. The cancellation hole (5.5mm dia.) is located within the
circle.
Note Grade = XF.
Numista N#244275.
Reference: Geiger 011.03.
Year 976; First written mention of Altenburg in property deed.
Circa year 1200: Altenburg received city charter.
Note: City Charters were awarded by the Holy Roman Emperor, or
the HRE's staff.
Attention: This note is NOT FOR SALE.
City of Altenburg is located about 276 miles N.E. of Stadt Landau
in der Pfalz.
**Most of these emergency notes issued during World War One are
interesting because of the history involved. Researching the note and history of the issuing entity is a lot of fun, in addition to being educational. Paper money collecting has been a fun hobby for Heron
since 1970. Always something new to 'find'. And a great hobby for
Altgeezers.**.
Atencion: This note IS NOT FOR SALE.
