What language is this?

Found this in a disbound 18th century book. Not sure if the binding was original, so no clue really on the date of this thing from that. However, a good place to start would seem to be knowing what language it is. If anyone can translate it that would be amazing. I'm not seeking instant miracles, just a bit of direction.

Looks like real Sanskrit (as opposed to Bibliosanskrit).

Also does not look to be modern typeface that I've seen in some books--after that it's all guess work. The paper looks like it might be pulp from that region--I've got some books that were printed in India a while ago and they tone somewhat differently that Western pulp paper.  Not sure if its the trees or hemp reinforcement.

It does look quite like the examples given in Google pics.

If that's what it is I did get it upside-down.

A friend of mine has been researching for a book he's writing. One of the contacts he made just might be able to translate it. I'll report back when I know more.

Reminds me of one of fine.books discoveries: padding for the back strip?

Might  be worth something.

I recall Fine's find, too. A couple of strips of ancient Egyptian papyrus.

This was in the backstrip, as you suggested.

Still waiting on the hoped-for translation.

Apparently the language is Bengali.

The attempt at translation that came with this information resulted in....

'Rich - Bob formed at auction in Bankadis.'

Maybe some things changed over time. Maybe only having part of it is losing the context.
