Ask any question about any book Part II

This was a popular book first published in 1889 by a number of different publishers probably more or less simultaneously. I don't know which publisher was first and I doubt if anyone would care.

When you are looking through prices, look for the cheapest copy that is in comparable condition to the one you have. Everything less expensive has sold, and the higher priced ones may never sell.

There are no copies of "Heroes of the Dark Continent" currently showing in ebay's completed auctions, but there are several copies in varying condition in current auctions, and if you wait a few days, you will be able to see prices realized for them and get a realistic idea of how your copy might do on ebay.

Oldbookshop, you have written an excellent piece of advice which needs to be reiterated:

When you are looking through [book] prices, look for the cheapest copy that is in comparable condition to the one you have. Everything less expensive has sold, and the higher priced ones may never sell.

Thanks--I'm sure I have repeated that many times, and I think satnrose had an extremely similar piece of advice.

I don't know if it ever got into the "Tip of the Day."

Collections of piano music rank fairly far down the scale in desirability.

Binding condition is not necessarily too important for sheet music collections, but brittle pages definitely are a major detraction. It's probably not worth bothering with.

Thank you for the info. That's what I thought, basically worthless due to the brittle pages. I'll just chuck it.

Ask any question about any book Part II

Hi, I am not sure if this is the correct thread for my question. I have a hardback book with a removable cover(Dean Koontz-The Mask) and the isbn on the removable cover and the isbn listed on the publishing page is different. Ebay has the outer cover isbn listed as a paperback, and they have no info on the inside isbn. So I tried doing isbn searches online, I found one which matches the inside isbn but it shows it being a paperback.
The isbn on outer cover is-0425127583
ISBN on inside page is-0425097773

How do I go about listing this? Should I use the isbn ebay has info on and then place in the auction listing that the isbn is different?

I am so sorry if I am rambling.

In your description you say "first edition stated," but in your question here, you say that there is no statement of edition.

Which statement is correct?

This is the Library of Congress description:

LC control no.: 72080051
LCCN permalink: http://lccn.loc.gov/72080051

Type of material: Book (Print, Microform, Electronic, etc.)
Personal name: Smith, Patti.

Main title: Seventh heaven / Patti Smith.
Edition: 1st ed.
Published/Created: Philadelphia, Pa. : Telegraph Books ; Berkeley, Calif. : distributed by Bookpeople, c1972.
Description: 47 p. ; 19 cm.
LC classification: MLCS 83/5866 (P)

That means that in their copy there was some specific identification of the first edition.

Many books have a regular trade edition and a limited edtiion as well. These editions may be issued simultaneously or at different times.
