During the last Friends of the Library sale, I vowed I would NOT go! I have 3,000 books as is!

I killed time ALL day, trying to stay away... The last few hours are a half price sale. I went in with $2.00 in my hand... As I walked around, I'd fondle books (don't you all fondle books? *L*) trying to decide which two I wanted. One literally "spoke" to me. It was called "The Life Work of Farmer Burns" It was a small red book, published in 1911, in near perfect condition... a first edition... I darn near had a heart attack, when I saw when it was going for on Amazon. Other online research only proved I had a "find". I sold the book here for $250.00.

The other book I made some nice cash on, was a copy of Goa Freaks. I paid 25 cents for it, and sold it for around $70.00.

I love this forum. Thank you for all the good tips, and info!

A book that looks like nothing.

Dennis- The item you have in the top portion of your list under "Selected by Jane Werner- published 1951" with question marks, I suspect is most likely The Big Golden Book of Elves and Fairies.

A copy of Margin of Safety, which is already on the list, recently sold on eBay for $1425 (item#170190897355, 02/12/08)

I think if/once this book is re-issued, these prices will fall considerably.

$430 for a 1997 fly tying book.

"RARE AND UNUSUAL FLY TYING MATERIALS, VOL. 2, BIRDS AND MAMMALS. By Paul Schmookler and Ingrid Sils. Millis, MA The Complete Sportsman, 1997 First Edition. Excellent near new Condition. FINE hardcover in FINE Dust Jacket, protected in an archival Brodart jacket cover. 4to, 347 pages, and oversized.

RARE first printing of the second volume. Extensively illustrated with phenomenal color photographs (Showing minute detail) and paintings of literally a thousand beautiful Salmon and Trout flies. This wonderful and very rare book is very sought after and an essential reference for the fly tier and fisherman. The book begins by discussing the natural histories of a number of birds. It has a section describing the natural breeding of poultry in America for hackle. Consultants include Dr. Whiting of Hoffman Farms. There is also an extensive section on Mammals, with an overview of the American fur trade. Included are thumbnail overviews of each mammal's natural history. Fly tying and fishing methods are discussed. There are over 500 fine photos. A rare and beautiful production. "

I just sold Structural Dynamics by John Biggs for $400. Hard-to-find copy of his popular 1962 textbook (engineering). Plain, green cover; no picture, just the two words. Definitely a "book that looks like nothing..."

Actually, the full title is Introduction to Structural Dynamics, 1964, by John Biggs. Sorry for my earlier over-zealous and inaccurate post. It was made without the info right in front of me at the time. This is correct.

Revenge of the Vampire by Keith Martin. This book is part of the Fighting Fantasy series, which are individual role playing books. The books in the 50's of this series are worth picking up, though they can be variable. I just got $82.00 for this one. The low numbered books in this series don't tend to be worth much.

The Axis Deer in Texas by Ernest D Ables, a 1977 soft cover publication from (a looooong list here):

The Caesar Kleberg Research Program in Wildlife Ecology
and Department of Wildlife and Fishery Sciences
and The Texas Agricultural Experiment Station
and The Texas A&M University System

eBay item number: 160211686773 This booklet was saved because it had a photo of some deer on the cover. In thumbing through it there was a quick realization that this would be perfect for a hunter in search of Bambi and a search soon found several listings online in the $175 range and a few for over $200... so this copy sat on the river (with hundreds of others) at various prices but could not get a nibble (unlike dozens of others).

All it brought on this eBay auction was $46.00... not near what i wanted... but better than floating on the river and not getting a sale?
