There are quite a few books that don't look like anything special. Here's one:

A book that looks like nothing.

No offense intended, but you might be better off posting your question on the "Ask Any Question About Any Book" thread, as it is really more suited to that -- this thread is really about books that people have found which at first glance appear to be relatively valueless, but which turned out to have value, and the poster knows now that they turned out to have value.

A book that looks like nothing.

No offense taken. I forgot, I was so thinking how 'like nothing it looks'!

I'll find the right one for the question. And if it turns out to be 'something' I'll report that back.

My apologies.

A book that looks like nothing.

Acquired several books from an estate sale and one of them was THE WONDERFUL ADVENTURES OF LITTLE PRINCE TOOFAT by George Randolph Chester, 1922. Searched AddAll and found 300+ titles by Chester but not this one. Before discarding, I googled, and it came up on this thread! Satnrose posted it some time ago. Any info on this title would be appreciated. (Boards in fair condition--separating from spine--text pages/llustrations in very good condition.)

southern_petlover: I once saw a mediocre copy sell at auction
for over $1000, but that was a long time ago.

What is it worth now? Beats me.

What makes it important is that
it is the first book illustrated by Robert Lawson,
so if you list it on eBay,
make sure you put his name in the Item Title.

It's funny,
but I yesterday posted that I wouldn't answer questions on this thread.

But circumstances made a liar out of me.

I grabbed up a Clive Cussler book that was a 2 in 1 reprint of "Iceberg" and "The Mediterranean Caper". Only had original copyright dates of 1973 and 1975, but judging by the "also by this author" list, this reprint was from about 1997. Listed at $22.50 with $97.50 buyout, auction finished up at $102.50 heh... 🙂

I was exploring for fishing books and discovered an author who is of great importance and heavily collected. His name is Roderick Haig-Brown. It appears that almost all of his books in their first editions are real winners, and most of his books even in reprint are sellable in the 5-20 range.

Fishing books are like cookbooks, some can be real winners but most are dogs of little value. It pays to know the "winner" authors in a field where to some extent all the books look alike. I for one am putting this dude on my watch list.

Glad to report the book

THICKER N' THIEVES, by Charles Stoker, did well (after receiving advice on the Ask Any Question thread 10 or so days ago).

It sold from My Store at $199.99 today. Total expenditure by me, about $5.00.

Thanks to Satnrose esp. with some to Buby... and Poet.. who weighed in too.

After a year stuck at the $150.00 high point, now I have to set the bar to $300.00.

A book that looks like nothing.

Just thought I'd report that THE WONDERFUL ADVENTURES OF LITTLE PRINCE TOOFAT by Chester, illustrated by Robert Lawson, in fair condition, sold at auction for $137. I paid $4 for about 15 books at an estate auction, but wouldn't have known about this book's value if not for this thread. Thanks, satnrose, for listing it and for giving me the "heads up" about this book being Lawson's first. Considering the condition, I'm pleased.
