I am trying to retrieve old messages from a seller that was archived, can it be done

If you have your messages forwarded to your email address, check your email archives.

eBay usually only keeps recent messages in the message inbox and folders.

You may be able to download a report with some older message text by date range here:

Reports take a week to generate a link, and then the link must be used within the next week or the link expires.
