Interestingly, the problem is intermittent, and occasionally the app will open the link correctly without attempting to hand off to the browser. But mostly, links unsuccessfully go to Safari, and display a message stating “...could not open the page because it could not establish a secure connection to the server“.
Rebooting device and/or restarting the app are not the solution. This behavior exhibits on an iPad Pro, with updated app and latest iOS (12.1.1).
