My buyer has asked about a code to give his son so he can pick up the item.  I have never heard of this, anyone care to explain

Did the buyer choose local pick up when they purchased the item?

If so they will receive a QR code and a digit code to give to the seller for them to enter it into eBay as proof of delivery. The QR & digit codes are in the buyers confirmation email plus the digit code is on their purchase history order details.

The seller scans the QR code into the APP and can enter the digit code into the APP or on a desktop.

The help page above has information on using the APP to enter the code. If you are using a desktop or mobile browser you can click Confirm Pickup in the drop down menu next to the order on the Awaiting Shipment page and a screen pops up to enter the 6 digit code.
