Why Can't I Update my email address

I have tried for weeks... finally after pretending i was stupid and didn't know how to simply click on a link (that never came)   ebay admitted they have an issue updating my address.   They said they would ("for sure") get back to me within 72 hours.   this was two weeks ago.  I still can't change it.  since I got a new email I have done it on probably 100 other accounts/site.   why is ebay unable to do something so simple... because it took their support people a good 30 minutes on the phone to admit they couldn't do it.
