USPS won't accept dropoff at different zip code

The local post office just informed me today that they won't be accepting any packages dropped off by Ebay sellers that have a "ship from" zip code (printed on top left of priority mail label) that is different than the Post Office's zip code.

This post office is 2 miles away, and is the closest one to me. I've dropped off there daily for years. They say they now have a problem with tracking and insurance if they accept packages from a zip code other than theirs. My zip code is different than theirs, although we both are in the same city, 2 miles apart. There is another post office that's about 3 miles away that probably does have my same zip code.

When using USPS click and ship website, there is an option you can check to "ship from a different zip code". But that option is not available on Ebay. I believe Ebay simply uses the zip code of your return address. Am I forced to only drop off at my official post office for my address? Can I not drop off at another post office just down the street??

If you click on "edit" button for your return address on the "Shipping Label" page, there is an option to change your "ship from" zip code. This is where you would update the zip code to your correct zip code.

Something else to keep in mind, that is how the post offices keep track of there own revenue. So when you drop off your packages at a different post office that what you have listed, the wrong post office is getting the credit  while the one you dropped off at is doing all of the work. So it is understandablew why they have started enforcing a rule that has been in place for a long time.

Good question tho. My Post Master and I spent several days investigating the correct usage of the "Ship from zip code" setting for online postage, several years ago.  Anyways, I hope this helps.
