Someone somehow compromised my Ebay account earlier today and ordered a rather expensive electronic and used the credit card tied to my PayPal account to pay for the purchase. Whoever this person was, also then lovingly subscribed me to over 4,000 newsletters and other assorted communications which then flooded my inbox with notifications. Assumably to hide their recent unapproved purchase. Unluckily for them, I happened to check my email at the right time to catch the notification from Ebay that my purchase was about to ship. Of course, when I saw the cost of said purchase, I almost did something that sounds very simliar to "ship". Quickly got ahold of an Ebay representative who suggested that I call the seller to see if we could work it out to cancel the transaction. Luckily, we were able to get that all sorted out and I'm going to have to work with my credit card to ensure that the charge gets refunded back to my card. I'm sure it will so I'm not super worried about that.
Here's the part that has me concerned, whoever made this purchase actually left the shipping address alone. This expensive electronic was on its way to me at MY HOUSE. I confirmed this with the seller that the address he had to ship the item to was actually my address. The Ebay representative was the one that brought it up to me as he said it was "lucky for you" that they left the shipping address alone. . .I'm not sure I'd call that lucky but. . okay? I find it very odd that someone would go through the trouble to hack into my Ebay account, make a purchase and then have it shipped right to me at my house. So, of course, I'm a little concerned as to whether I have reason to be concerned there.
Since obviously on the Ebay side, it seems as if I logged into my account to make this purchase, I'm wondering if there's any other data that Ebay might have to identify who this person might be. Like. . .the IP address from the computer that made the purchase? I don't know if that kind of information is automatically collected or not but maybe it would be useful?
