The bid/buy now option on a sellers page

On some pages there is the option to "bid" or "buy now".  Once there is a bid, does that negate the buy now option?

For most Categories of items ... the BIN option goes away after the first bid is placed.

For 5 Categories of items ... the BIN goes away once the bidding reaches 50% of the BIN price.
