Sending an Offer Issue

Trying to figure out what I did wrong.  I had an item listed.  I received a message yesterday from an interested party asking if I would take a lower amount for the item.  I said yes.  At the beginning of the message there was a "send offer" option.  I clicked on it, entered the lower amount and sent it off.  I then sent the interested party a message saying I would accept their offer.  Twenty minutes later I got a response from the interested party saying it looked like someone beat them to it and someone else bought it for the lower amount.  What did I do wrong?  I thought by sending the "Send Offer" that was listed at the beginning of their message to me it would have gone to the person who sent me the original message and not to the whole Ebay community.  I appreciate and thank you in advance for educating me!

Sending an Offer Issue

When you list an item, "the whole community" can act on it.  Sending or receiving an offer or counteroffer does not lock the listing or in any way prevent anyone from using the appropriate buttons to Buy It Now, bid or offer.  Someone else used the Buy It Now on two of your listings yesterday.  What makes you think it was at a lower price than the BIN?
