A refund always goes back to the original source -- in the case of a credit card, the bank account the credit card was linked to. If you had a new card issued for the same account, the refund should be spendable using the new card number.
If you closed your credit card account entirely, then you should contact your bank to see how refunds to closed accounts are handled.
