How to contact Ebay from New Zealand and over-riding the return process which seems only for US base

I have been going around and around in circles looking for a place to talk on the phone to a customer service rep from Ebay.  I can only find a 'call back'  to either a US or Canadian number.  We were sent the wrong car part.  We initiated a return which created a label that we now know can only be used within the US.  Spent a heap of money sending the part back to the US based seller and he has confirmed that he has it.

However on Ebay it just shows that the return process has been started with the print out of a label and we as buyers have done nothing more.  Because this is where we are stuck, we can't find any options to have Ebay step in on our behalf.  The seller has been slow to communicate, has tried to put the blame onto us and has now told us that it's strange and he'll speak to his manager.  Clearly they don't want to accept responsibility.  We have even gone ahead and bought the correct part again from a different source because we need it!  We will be losing out in this transaction anyway due to having to pay exorbitant shipping fees to return to the seller.  It would be nice to have the initial money spent on the part refunded!  Obviously this would be much easier to explain over a phone call.  Any advice gladly received thank you!

That is odd - did you have the part originally shipped to a US address, like a freight forwarder?  That is the only reason I can think of that the system would try to give you a return label.

It sounds like you did not enter the tracking # from the package into the return.  That is why the system does not know that you have shipped, or the seller has received it.  I would try entering that tracking # now from your purchase history -

  • Select the shipping carrier from the dropdown list. If you select Other, enter the carrier name.
  • Enter the tracking number.
  • Select Mark as sent

But to answer your question, I do not know how to get them to return an international call.  I would contact customer service by posting a message on twitter or facebook, and see if they can help directly, or give you instructions on how to speak to a rep. www.facebook.com/ebay www.twitter.com/ebay
