Product Category selling

I really don't understand this new product category thing.  Apparently if I don't select a product category, I can't complete the listing... and if I do, it will be totally unseen because I have only one or two to sell.  So basically eBay is saying, that certain items aren't worth listing anymore.  ALSO it says if the listing is completed without a product category, it won't be searchable.  So apparently buyers just have to find it by accident.  What if they don't have a product category for your item?   If the item isn't searchable, how will buyers be able to find it?
