Paypal Express checkout using bank account without permission.

I recently bought an item "buy it now" on ebay and when I went to pay, in the paypal section, I selected my credit card as the payment method.  The money was then taken out of my bank account.  I contacted paypal and they said I have ebay set up with "express checkout" which overrides whatever payment method you choose and uses your bank account.  I do not find anywhere in Paypal where I can change this and so is this a setting I can change on ebay?  I do remember allowing express checkout, but I had no idea that meant that they could override the payment method I choose and use my bank account instead.  Please help.  I believe I was using the new Paypal interface.  It won't let me comment on here for some reason, but maybe I'm wrong about the new interface because no, I stayed right in ebay, it never took me to paypal.  I just had a dropdown box in the paypal section to change payment method and I had selected my credit card there.  Ok yes it was the bottom picture.  Thank you for all your help.  I specifically selected my credit card so not sure why Paypal used my bank account.  Like I said all Paypal told me was that it used express checkout which uses my bank account regardless.
