Unfortunately, looking for eBay "classified" for Motors brings up a confusing mixup of various services:

  1. eBay.com has a "classified ad" format for a listing that acts as a lead generating tool. This does not carry over to the Motors platform.

  2. eBay has a free local listing site like CraigsList called eBayClassifieds.com , which is now called www.close5.com  (probably not what you were looking for).

  3. eBay Motors has a local "classified ad" option that is only available by subscription to dealerships, which is a lead generating tool.

Bottom line - there is no Classified Ad format on eBay motors for a private seller.

Since bidding reached only half the price you wanted, you might consider it is too early in the season for selling a "look at me" car. Spring might be better.

I would also recommend more eye candy and a different organization of the description.

  • First, describe the drama of the car, headturning, rumbling, whatever.
  • Then add a bullet list of standard features
  • Another bullet list of added features.
  • Another bullet list of shortcomings, like no power steering (to set expectations).
  • Another bullet list of flaws, like "fuel gauge does not work" (this list actually builds buyer confidence).
  • Make a collage of the magazine feature and add that.
  • Sum up with the hard sell and adrenaline rush.

If you can take a lot more photos inside and out, in addition to photos of any flaws, they can be hosted on an outside image host like photobucket.com or use.com and can be placed inside the listing as separate groupings, like the photo sets down in the description in this sample listing.

Be aware that you can only list or relist a vehicle six times in one calendar year for free before graduating permanently to "high-volume" seller status that incurs a listing fee.  Also note that relists tend to bring in successively lower bids. So I would list only twice and then take it off for a month or more before trying again.

Since adding a reserve price is going to cost extra each time you list, you may want to consider a fixed price with a $200-$500 non-refundable deposit that is payable immediately through PayPal. Look closely on the listing form for the option.
