I have a followed search looking for particular item (horse trailer), in a specific ebay motors category (Horse Trailers), with a couple of ebay motors pre-defined filters (Bumper Pull and 2 Horse), a price limit (Under $2000) and a distance filter (within 200 miles). The search works perfectly. Most days there are 0 results -- which is fine -- whenever the item I want is within the distance I want, the search does find it. All well and good.
To make sure I don't miss a matching item I want eBay to email me whenever the search finds the item. That is supposed to be easy. Right?
Well, not so easy.
It is easy to get eBay to send me emails, but those emails are not the same as the search. The emails that eBay sends me for this search apparently use the search terms but totally ignore all the filters.
As just one example, today there are 0 results for the search -- today's email says "368 new matches today." The email then lists the "top 20 matches for today" -- NONE those 20 items actually match the search. Most of them are toys (not listed in the category of my search), a few are items that might be listed in the category but which do not match the other filters; most are not within 200 miles of my location. Basically the email is giving me every item on eBay that includes the words "horse" and "trailer" anywhere in the listing.
The email, of course, includes the button "View all results" -- if I click on that button, it takes me to my saved search which clearly says "0 results found for horse trailer"
The last time there was a real match for my search, that one real match didn't even make it into the "top 20" list!
I've spoken to eBay's so-called Customer Service. The girl was very nice.... and very confused because my problem wasn't covered in any of her scripts. Once I convinced her that I was not needing help to figure out how to click on the box to subscribe to emails for my search, she eventually did listen to the problem. But her solution was for me to wait for eBay to fix it if they ever do.
