I tried to return a defective item. The seller said no, and I need to move on to the next step. I need ebay to step in, and all I do is get sent to help articles that do not help.

Did you open a return request? That is the first step. The seller can not say no if you select defective or not as described -
Go to your purchase history - select return this item. Under reasons select does not match the description, and follow the prompts.
The seller has 3 business days to send you a return label or a refund. If he doesn't, or says he can not send a label, go to your case and click 'ask us to step in'.
If you opened a return but selected the wrong reason for return, eBay can not step in and you can not correct it. You can contact your credit card issuer and ask them to open a dispute for a defective item.

Thank you. They said no immediately and closed the case. I put that it was defective, so I guess I will have to contact my credit card company
