This isn't as much a question as it is about the format, specifically the prescribed duration of a listing. Before this "genius" set-up by eBay a seller was the one who determined what length of time was best, according to his / her dictates and wants : maybe the full 30 days; maybe shorter. I've noticed a drop-off in my sales ever since this ignoble format was begun, and my thinking goes along the line of, "Why feel impelled to buy something when ... heck, ( I'm ) advised that there's a whole month to wait it out and keep shopping. " I recently listed a NIKON P510, a very, very good digital camera with many accessories, and within a few days there are gobs and gobs of "lookers"; some "watchers" ... but, thus far, no takers. In the past, had I had listed the same for, say, a 15 day duration ... it would be gone. If there are actually interested parties and a smaller window of opportunity in which to buy, then possibly one's internal competitive nature might just kick in, and a sale is initiated.
eBay, stop being so algorithmically dogmatic and use more (marketing) common sense on behalf of your audience.
