Ebay system problems returns and tracking numbers

Today I got a message from Ebay about an item that I returned recently. It said that I needed to return the item and a shipping label was attached. Luckily I kept the receipt from the post office showing I returned the item using the shipping label provided by the seller/Ebay. However, the customer service rep refused to issue me a refund because he said the item was still in transit. This is upsetting because not only did Ebay make the mistake, it is refusing to make it good by issuing me the refund I am entitled to. I realize that the seller may not have picked up the package yet from the post office, but in this case Ebay should have taken my word for it that I returned the item. Receiving such a notice that I did not return an item was disturbing, as it was a high priced item, and it Ebay is inadvertently issuing new shipping labels for return packages that have already been shipped, that is a big problem. The customer service rep repeated information that was not relevant and I was on the phone for much longer than I should have been. Im sure this is disturbing to other customers besides me. The rep told me there was a "glitch" in the system. what if that "glitch" somehow starts charging our credit cards and PayPal accounts for amounts that we don't authorize? I'm sorry, but "glitches" such as this are not just part of doing business, they are a black mark on Ebay's reputation for being a safe place to do business. Ebay uses SAP, a German engineered business software package that is highly customized. If I was Ebay, I'd be after SAP for some kind of monetary return, because mistakes like these cost unseen thousands, if not millions in revenue, not to mention customers that wonder where their hard earned dollars are going (into limbo?), when they aren't refunded for goods that are defective.
