Defect Rate AND DSR rating based only on those that leave feedback

I have had 4 items out of a few hundred that I was unable to ship due to silly things like my grandson ripped open thinking it was a present and sticky toddler fingers got the item stained and I couldnt remove. Each time I've talked with the buyers (4) in all this time and I have a big !! next to my defect rate for the past 2 years.  I don't think that's fair.  Accidents happen.  I contacted the buyers, offered deductions, etc. When will these expire or go away? Will they ever?

Also, I am not able to get an answer that I can agree upon or understand the past year regarding the DSR.  Why is it, only the people that leave feedback effect our DSR?  Majoritiy of people don't take time to leave feedback.  I've checked, added notes.  Some many have 500 stars and never left feedback or some may leave feedback 1 out of every 20 items.  I am hoping that the community or someone can help me understand eBay's reasoning for the DSR.  I can't believe that if they do leave feedback they gvie low stars for communication.  I send an updated tracking, I personally write to them to let them know the package was picked up or dropped off and on it's way.  I leave a packing slip in the package.  I had 400+ DSR and in 1 year its now down to 150 with 100% based on these feedbacks that are left by very few and they seem to be very picky.

Am I the ONLY one who see these as BIG, HUGE issues that demand attention?  Im not a store. A regular average person who do this in my spare time and I see that the people who dedicate their whole time to selling have lower rates and better items that I can't compete with.  I hope you (the big stores) see what I mean but am hoping the rest can understand.

I don't want to leave eBay because I'm so familiar with it.  I checked one site and there are people selling items they purchased on ebay from China.  Like dresses and totes.  There's no logo or name brand so I know it's ebay or they have made their own contact with Asia and sell it on this other site.  What I am so extremely surprised at is the overwhelming amount of people saying...."Oh I love these bags!  I have to get more!  When will you have purple?"  There is over 25 people writing and triple buying for something that costs 3 times less.  I guess it's the sellers right to make money.  I don't want to go to these sites.  eBay is so big, it's hard (I think) for them to think about the little or small sellers.  Its more on the big sellers.  Regardless of my opinions or complaints, can anyone help with opinions, suggestions or even answers on when the defect rate will ever go down or away... it's been 2 years!  Or anything about the DSR not at all being fair.  No one takes the time to leave feedback and if they do, they don't leave 5 stars across the board. HELP! THANKS!
