Customer Service Callbacks (not working)

I use the Google AI for call screening. If I don't I get hammered with spam calls. However, Ebay's callback system doesn't seem to be aware that Google AI call screening is a thing. The result is that I never see an incoming call on my phone but I get an e-mail saying:

 

"We tried to contact you, but weren't able to reach you at the phone number on file, because either:

  • The call was not answered
  • The call reached a voicemail
  • The call reached a busy signal
  • The number called was wrong or disconnected
  • eBay’s Customer Service phone number is blocked on your device
  • Spam filters enabled on your device blocked the call

We recommend you check the settings on your phone to ensure the call was not blocked. This can happen if you have activated spam filters on your device that automatically block unknown phone numbers. You can find more information on how to deactivate those settings in your device manufacturer support page, or contact your mobile carrier for assistance.

If you recently changed to another phone number, please update it in My eBay. To update your phone number in My eBay:

  1. Go to My eBay.
  2. From My eBay, select the Account tab.
  3. Select Personal information on the left side of the page.
  4. Select Edit next to the information you want to update.

I'd like to whitelist the ebay callback number (the number from which they call), but it's not in my received call log nor do they say in the e-mail what the callback number should be nor does the e-mail come from a monitored e-mail address, so I can't even ask the question. Their chatbot is surprisingly dumb and is likewise incapable of answering that question. What is ebay's call back number?

I do not know if eBay uses a single number for outgoing calls; there may be one number displayed on caller-ID, but it may not actually be the same number, so adding that number to your whitelist may not actually help.

 

If eBay does use a single number, it likely ends in 3229 (which spells out eBay). If you google eBay and that number, you may be able to find an old reference to the full number.

 

Other users have indicated that eBay's call back system is not compatible with VOIP numbers, so if you are using VOIP, try adding a different phone number to your account, at least temporarily.

Going with your VOIP numbers comment, I switched my phone to not use IP calling. After that I was able to receive a callback.
