Currency conversion with the new checkout layout

As for the new layout on the checkout page, I can't seem to locate the place where I can select to have the currency converted from my local coin to US $. Before, I used to login into my paypal account at checkout and then I was able to select the whether or not I wanted to use Paypal' conversion rate or to pay direclty in US $ with my crecit card. I never went for Paypal's conversion cause of its higher rates, but now this is frustrating. I have gone thru two purchases already only because I have no other option. 

Any help is highly appreciated, thanks !

Here in the US we have the ability to set our credit card, instead of Paypal, to handle currency conversions.

It is a setting in our Paypal account, not something done during checkout.

Set it once & we don't have to set it again, unless we want to change & have Paypal do the conversion.

Different countries have different Paypal capabilities.

I don't know if this will work for members from other countries, but this is how a US member would set their credit card to do the currency conversion:

Paypal account

Little Gear (profile) icon

Scroll down to:  Preapproved payments

Then locate & click the Set Available Funding Sources link located on the right hand side of the page.

To the right of your cc info, click Conversion Options

Then select:

(  ) Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice.
I will not know which foreign exchange rate has been applied to this transaction until I receive my card statement from my card issuer. I acknowledge that by choosing this option, my card issuer will determine the foreign exchange rate to apply to this transaction, and that I will not be informed of the foreign exchange rate or any additional foreign exchange fees applied until I am billed by my card issuer.

Then [Submit].

Do not set your cc to do the currency conversion until you've compared their fees & conversion rates to those of Paypal.

For US members:  Paypal's 2.5% fee is pretty good compared to many cc companies.

I'm thoroughly angry I also tried this as I thought it would stop my purchase being converted in the horrid ebay/paypal exchange rate. I wanted to be charged in US dollars and pay through Paypal with my creditcard and the stupid site still converted it without my permission overriding my internal Paypal settings!!!!

I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, but are you proceeding to checkout while on the US site, ebay.com, or on your home site, ebay.com.au?

paypal and ebay is forcing people outside the U.S to use the conversion option, on checkout i can click conversion options which leads it to a open a paypal window that says "Things don't appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later." so that you can't change it, i have already done and set it from the main paypal site to bill me in the currency listed in the sellers invoice and it still wants to force me to use paypal conversion on ebay, shady f***ing business practice for both ebay and paypal
