Cannot delete items from my Watchlist

Have multiple items in my Watchlist.  Checking items and then selecting "Delete" at the top of the list only results in the Delete box being outlined in blue (not all lit up), and no response to clicking on that box.  Afraid to add any more items to the list until I can readily, and consistently< clear it.
