Lately, while searching for hiking boots and pants, I noticed a strange phenomenon: listings that include bogus items so that a low price is shown in search results. For example, one pair of pants was shown as $1.99. Select a size and color and the price is $16.27. The only way to get something for $1.99 with this listing is to select the pair of blue plastic hooks. Of several pants I was interested in, there was only one listing that did not employ this practice. In some cases, the low priced item was something intangible such as "see chart" or "FreeSize". eBay must find a way to prevent sellers from exploiting color/size selection listings in this way.
