Account restriction for almost a month due to “verification?”

cyndow40

On August 11, eBay restricted my account until I uploaded a government ID (driver’s license) and bank statement.  I uploaded those documents on August 11.  The restriction was not removed by August 21.  I contacted support and was told 48 to 72 hours.  The restriction was not removed.  I contacted support on August 21 and was told I needed to add my middle name to my eBay account to match my driver’s license.  Did that on August 21.  Restriction not removed.  Contacted support on August 24.  Told it would be removed in 48 to 72 hours.  Contacted support on August 28.  Told my bank statement wasn’t sufficient so uploaded driver’s license and bank statement again.  Agent said documents looked “proper.”  Restriction still not removed.  Contacted support on September 5.  Same **bleep**.  Issue has been escalated and will be resolved “soon.”  Meanwhile, eBay is holding my money, not paying me interest and not removing the restriction.  Anyone want to join me in a class action lawsuit?  I’ll pay legal costs but need others having the same problem to join the class.

Have you made sure that the name on your checking account matches the name on your registered ebay account?  If you have a middle name or initial, you add that in the first name field on ebay.

I had to change to my first name on ebay, because I registered with my middle name, and all of my bank information and legal papers use my first name.  Also make sure your registered ebay address uses a physical street address, and not a P.O. Box.  You can change that later once you have been transitioned into Managed Payments.

@cyndow40  Your bank account and eBay account name and address have to match exactly.  If they don't then you have problems.

I am sorry that you are having so much trouble getting through the verification process.  They really need to train more people to process these types of managed payments issues.

I would keep calling daily until I reached a person that actually fixes the problem.

As I explained to support on at least three occasions, my bank account is in the name of my family trust.  I am a trustee of the family trust.  But my driver’s license is in my personal name.  This is not unusual in today’s world of financial planning.  I cannot get the Department of Motor Vehicles to add… Cynthia Downing, Trustee, to my driver’s license.  And I cannot get my bank to remove “Trustee” from my name on the account if I want to transfer funds from other accounts which I do.  eBay needs to get its act together or be sued to force it to do so.  Their verification protocols aren’t workable for many people.

Hi @cyndow40 , You are expecting too much.  You cannot expect eBay customer service to decipher your family trust entanglements.  As has been told to you at least twice here, the name on the driver's license and the name on the bank account must match EXACTLY.  There, I capitalized it.  If they do not, they do not meet eBay's criteria.  It's pretty simple.  You can open a separate small back account to use for eBay, or you can be an eBay buyer.

ps, If we only had a nickle for every threat of a class action.  Read eBay's terms of use.  Read what you agreed to by opening an eBay account and becoming an eBay member.  Operative word member.  It's a private club.  You have the right to vote, the right to free expression, and the right to marry who you chose, but you do not have a right to belong to eBay.  Good luck!

Sorry .....BUT ebay customer service should have told you from the beginning that it is impossible to do what you are trying to set up.

As it turns out, the name on the government ID and the bank account do NOT have to match EXACTLY.  They have to be verifiable which can include matching address, matching Social Security # and matching first and last names.  eBay agreed it can’t require exact matches because so many people have joint bank accounts.  It took 8 contacts with support but the hold has finally been removed and my documents accepted.
