Without literals support, the search engine cannot differentiate. And
you did away with wildcards (they were there a long time ago). That was
perhaps the stupidest thing eBay has done in my (long 24-years of
eBaying) memory.

I have the same issue. Typing a '(' into the ebay search box in firefox,
edge, opera, or IE cause it to show historical searches instead of
inserting the '(' into the search string.
