Vacation time

We are going to be out of the country for two weeks.  How do I put this info on eBay so people know I won’t respond to any eBay messages?

Re: Vacation time

Read all about "time away" here: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/selling-tools/time-away?id=5137

There are some exceptions to the rule so be aware of those (offers, global ship, etc).

On the blue link that takes you to your account's time away settings there are two options: one is to set up time away and the other is to set up an out of office message. You'll want to do both.

Re: Vacation time

I did time away but was still open for sales. I sold a lot when I was on vacation. I just email every buyer I am away and since October of vacation no one complained of delays. Actually had great sales while on vacation.

Re: Vacation time

It is not a good idea to be open for sales if you cannot ship within a day or so, because Buyers Don't Read™.

Set your Time Away to make your listings invisible from a day or so before you leave to a day or so before  your return.

Re: Vacation time

I was open for sales while away for 2 weeks(October) but it stated I was away until a certain time on the items for sale I just emailed each buyer I was away until such and item would be mailed then. I actually had great sales while on vacation and had to work my butt off the day I returned of course...around 75 sales I think. Plus the first 2 days I returned were busy also. I got a lot of emails from buyers thanking me for the emails when I was out of the country on a cruise(hurricane in Canada and got lucky). Would I close down in the future for 2 weeks...no. I had not one person complain of anything getting late shipping.

@milfordsales

While it is not necessary to respond to messages, you still need to keep an eye on your account while you are on vacation. Time Away does not absolve you from responding to cases etc.  If one is opened while you are gone, and you do not respond, and eBay has to step in it is a big account defect.

Just want to make sure you are aware.

Re: Vacation time

Just adjust your store to time away mode & that will trigger an automatic banner that you're away for a period of time.

Re: Vacation time

Another option would be to end all your listings and repost them after you got back. If I am taking a vacation, that mean nothing work related so don't want to be answering questions especially if I don't have the items with me. Your on vacation!

Re: Vacation time

We travel a lot. We always use time away with message response set up automatically. Short trips we keep our items visible and eBay moves out the ship date automatically. That way your customers knows not to expect it quicker and there is no need to send them an email. We have had zero issues with these settings. (hard to believe)

Re: Vacation time

Well, if they don't read, they certainly should not assume you are going to ship within 1 minute after payment let alone look at the estimated delivery date.

Re: Vacation time

"Would I close down in the future for 2 weeks...no. I had not one person complain of anything getting late shipping." nor have we every had anyone complain. It seems foolish to eliminate visibility of your items if you are going to be away just 2 weeks. We agree 100% with your comment of leaving items up!
