Refunded wrong buyer

I was contacted by a buyer who did not receive their item, so I immediately refunded their money. However, upon a second look I discovered I refunded the wrong person. I am not sure how to go about handling this situation, as far as contacting the person and reversing the errorneous refund.

eBay is the payee now, so when my seller accidentally refunded me

I was able to send the refund back to eBay.

You can't reverse the refund, but you can contact the buyer and explain what happened and see if they'll repay.

Well, that is quite the snafu... here's what I'd suggest:

 

I suppose you need to refund the correct buyer, who really needs to open an INR claim... to close out the transaction.

 

I could also talk myself into contacting the buyer (with the windfall) and explaining honestly... you'll need their cooperation.

 

Hopefully, you'll have a buyer like me who would understand and refund in kind. Good luck to you moving forward.

The buyer you refunded in error just got a gift.

 

You can't make them pay and you still owe the original buyer.  

 

Rough spot huh... lesson learned?

A reputable seller owns (and eats) their mistakes.  Just move on.

Thankfully it is only  $33.00. This incident started and ended with errors on my part so I will take the loss and let it go. Yes, it is a lesson learned.  Thank you all for your responses, i'm taking all your advice.

A) Refund the correct person.

B) Contact the wrong person and do your best to get them to refund you.

C) Try  not to make that mistake again.
