Listing variations

Hey guys,

So Ive been selling for a while and  I am constantly getting messages that they got the wrong color or the wrong item. It's like they don't understand the whole listing variation thing. I state clearly in the item description that you need to select the item you want to buy but apparently some people just don't see it. Is there any way to force the buyer to make a selection before he pays for it? like if ebay could not make a default selection that it goes to even if the buyer did't select anything.

thanks in advance

Re: Listing variations

If a variation listing is set up correctly, the buyer will not be able to purchase the item WITHOUT making a selection.  In your live listings, I only see white for color choice, and the number of cables set up as an option.  I cannot even add the items to my cart without selecting the number of cables, and can assume my only option for color is white.

If you set up a variation listing, you can add as many 'options' for your items as you prefer, to include BOTH color and amount.  The buyer will then have to select which options they prefer BEFORE purchasing.  If you simply put 'choose color' in the description, then no, buyers aren't likely to see it or let you know what color they want.

That's how it works already.  I just tried, for example, to put one of your sync cables in my cart without choosing which quantity bundle I wanted, and it wouldn't let me.  Instead, a  message displayed telling me that I had to select the number of cables.  (See screen shot below.)

I did find your listing a bit confusing though.  Part of it has to do with what you're calling your variations.  They're labeled as "Number of Cables."   But, since you have more than one in stock to offer, there's also a field called "Quantity."   That's sort of confusing as both refer to "a number."

If it were me, I would title my variation something like "Bundle" or "Bundle Type"  -- then in the indvidual variations, use terms like "3 Cable Bundle"  - "10 Cable Bundle", etc.   so that it makes it clear the cables are available in two configurations which means the "Quantity" field is where the buyer can order "one or more bundles."    See what I mean?

Also, I find your description a bit confusing as well.  The first part of it (which may be for many, especially those on mobile devicesbe the only part of your description they read/see) talks only about the 10-cable bundle -- it's not until farther down that you mention there's more than one option and they need to select which.

Instead of what you have now, I'd probably do something like this:

Up for sale is YOUR CHOICE of either a THREE or TEN-piece bundle of charging cables for the amazing iPhone  5/5s/5c/6/6plus/6s/6s plus/se/7/7plus/8/8plus/X/10.

Each cable is three-feet in length.  Put one in your bedroom, keep one in your car for traveling, one at work, another in the kitchen, or your living room.  These multi-cable bundles make it possible for you to have a charging cable wherever you need one, and the peace of mind knowing you'll always have an extra on hand.

Our multi-piece iPhone-compatible charging cable bundles are also a great option for resale/wholesale use.

To order, select the bundle (either 3-piece or 10-piece) you desire from the drop-down menu above as well as how many bundles you'd to receive and your order will be shipped without delay.

(Then include the rest of the copy you have in your listing below the above.)

Hope this might help...

Which listing is that @swenson8781?    Of any of the OP's active listings I can see, there's no mention at all that the cables are available in more than one color including in the pix and description.  My assumption is/was the cables are the color of what's in the pix.  (Could be white or a light grey, hard to tell) and there are no other variations as to color.

But maybe I'm wrong.   @aarons-tech-store ???

Re: Listing variations

@tiramisu41, the OP mentioned in his/her original query that buyers are complaining that they received the wrong color.  I, like you, only saw white for a color option in the current live listings, and no mention of other color possibilities.

But was trying to explain to the OP that if they want to have more than one 'option' for a choice in variation listings that it is indeed possible.  So they can have buyer choose both color, AND amount.  That make sense?

@swenson8781    Yep.  Makes sense.

I just was confused by you saying "you saw white for a color option" in the OP's live listings as I saw no mention of any color at all.    If the cables are available in more than one color, then the pix, description, and variations options presented should reflect that.

As it stands, none of the OP's current active listings make mention of a choice of color.    But, perhaps he has more than one ID and he has other listings that are available in different colors.  (?)   Dunno.  Maybe he'll be back and can clarify.
