Re: WHY

@forgottenape

I've been here since 2011 and I've never been able to get a First Class shipping label for anything over 13 oz.

I quit trying years ago.

Have a great day.

If you're showing the retail prices to your buyer, you can't do a First Class Package label over 13.0 ounces, as that's the retail (over the counter) weight limit. On-line rates go all the way to 15.999 ounces. There's a setting in Seller Preferences for choosing between whether to show retail or on-line pricing.

I have it set to show on line pricing.

Every time I tried to buy a label for First Class, over 13oz, it wouldn't let me.

It's been a couple years since I tried, so I don't know if it's still the same or not.

Have a great day.

That's odd...

Anyway, it doesn't matter, as the First Class Package rate does not change between 12.1 ounces and 15.999 ounces (it goes in 4-ounce price increments), so you can just call it 13 ounces and print the label anyway. As long as the true package weight is less than 16.0 ounces, you'll be fine.

Re: WHY

First Class Package Shipping has dropped back to 13 ounces. I checked the USPS website yesterday, and that is now the official statement under 1st Class Package Weight limits. I am not sure when they changed it from 15.9 ounces, it must have been recently. Does anyone know what exact date it dropped down? Was it the day they announced the seasonal price increases?

Over the counter Retail weight limit is indeed 13.0 ounces for First Class Package, but the on-line Commercial limit remains at 15.999 ounces for First Class Package via providers selling that (e.g. eBay, PayPal/shipnow, others). (USPS does not sell First Class Package shipping on-line themselves for some odd reason.) You can see the full rate table for on-line shipping up to 15.999 ounces on the USPS website here:
