I will not recommend anyone buying eBay gift card.
I have an eBay gift card that was purchased September 2024 and I scratched the redemption code around 2-3 days ago. (January 2025). There are 3 digits missing from the 13 digit code. Seems like they were missing when the card was being made.
I contacted eBay customer support and gave them info on the card and the receipt. They got back to me with the missing redemption codes, but also said someone else used the money before I even scratched open the cover of the redemption codes.
I went to the store that the card was purchased, and the store said this is an eBay problem because the card is defected. I called eBay customer support again and they said they pretty much said they can not help because the card was being scammed and I should’ve open the card and check the balance. And they said I can call the police for this.
So this is none of the store and eBay’s fault. Is it my fault to purchase a defective card and not redeem it in time even though the card says it will never expire? Is it my fault that eBay’s physical gift card is easily scammed? There was not much “support” in this customer support.
I have been using eBay for a couple of years now and I lost all of my trust and respect to eBay for this. I will actively discourage people I know in live and online to stay away from purchasing gift cards or using this website.
