Lifted from a thread on the booksellers Board:
Here in my neck of Penns Woods, at about 10 p.m. EST, it is about one degree below zero, but 24 below with the windchill factor. (Winds of 20-25 mph, with gusts in the high 30s mph.)

It has warmed up to -7 (Fahrenheit) this morning, compared to -19 yesterday morning. This is not including wind chill.

-4 here in NEPA. With windchill it's -25 to -35.
And yet by Friday, it's going to be up to 50 degrees.

:There really IS a difference in southern cold, not the least of which is the fact that there are so many mobile homes on cinder blocks, and one story houses on crawl space without insulation where the completely exposed pipes run underneath the structures. Wells are not protected either. Lots and lots of frozen pipes, toilets and washers today even though it only got to 19 plus, with a wind chill of about +9. All grocery stores and Walmart were packed yesterday, like before a snow storm, but there was still cat litter to be had. White bread was gone....
