paid 10 cents for my item.
I sold it for $5
Buyer paid $5.40 (8% tax)
eBay charged me $0.70 + $0.30
Bubble mailer $0.08
It cost $3.72 to ship.
My profit before eBay took their fees was 11 times what I paid for the item.
How can eBay do this to me?
eBay took 91% of my profit, but at least by not promoting it I
left myself enough money to buy another $0.10 item.

QR code. Post office paper/ink.
Oh wait, I don't have a phone, and my Post Office can't print labels anyway☹️

Bought 500 mailing envelopes, not 500 items 😊
Buyers only need one of the $0.10 item, no bundling.
I do sell some inexpensive items, but as stated up thread, this is here for amusement/entertainment.
Despite rising fees/costs, I do not sell at a loss. Just had 2 profit making sales in the past hour. I should go pull them from stock to prep for shipping tomorrow.
False alarm. Those are sold notices for July 9, 2022, not Sept. 7, 2022. Oh wait, just another eBay "glitch" (read as eBay IT coding error). They are today's sales. (I knew that) 😄

What foreign country do you live in where the post office can't print labels?

I'm in "podunk". (actually smaller than podunk)
Many small offices, as far as I know, don't print labels.

But is it as good as popping those big bubbles on the big bubble wrap? Do you feel fully satisfied?
Also, I want to know where @buyselljack2016 gets bubble envelopes for 0.08 cents. I've got lots of $5 widgets that I can pay people to take off my hands ship for free.

eBay did not take $1 of your profit, you sold an item that only had 10 cents of profit from the start.
Omitting $1 of expenses from your calculation does not magically create an extra $1 in profit, it just creates bad math.

The better question is how can you do that to yourself. You should definitely be mad at yourself and never make that mistake again. I believe you are warning others and actually not doing that so hopefully the thousands that also do that will read your post. 😀

On a more serious note: I pay 700% Final Value Fees.
Customer buys for $30; pays $6 shipping and $3 Tax.
I am charged 12.9% plus 2% Promo plus .30c on that total of $39.
So that means I am being charged $5.76 on an item that cost me .83c
That is 7 times the cost of my item, or the equivalent of 700% final value fee.
My book is on sale at your neighborhood store.
