I have a customer who purchased an item today but wants me to wait one month to ship it.   How do I do this?  Do I wait and print the label later or will this work against my rating as an eBay seller?

@bretterin

As you suggested, if you do not ship within your established time frame, you will receive a "ding" from eBay, which will effect your dashboard percentage.

Contact your buyer to explain the situation to them, and request that they cancel their purchase.  Explain to them that you will hold the item for them, until your buyer is fully prepared to accept shipment.

You can simply end the listing for a while, and then re-list again when your buyer is ready.

@bretterin

The "safest" method for the seller is as @1786davycrockett described.

Another option I have used and should work with eBay is:

1) Make sure the buyers request is in the eBay messaging system (ask them to request through eBay messaging if not).

2) Respond to your buyer through eBay messaging: "Per your request I will not ship your item until mm/dd/yyyy".

3) You will get a ding. You will need to contact eBay support and request the ding be removed noting the buyers request in eBay messaging

Takes a little effort and is riskier, but this has always worked for me. eBay support first told me this is the correct eBay method when I first had this come up (I know eBay support is not always reliable).

1786davycrockett has offered great advice.

However i would suggest not holding on to the item for a period of time to see if they May purchase it. If they can't get it shipped within your stated time frame and they want you to cancel it, you could relist/offer it for them to purchase while adding a 30 day handling time to your listing. if they need 45 days, have them purchase it with the updated terms where you can ship it within the 30 day handling time.  There is nothing wrong holding on to the item for them to purchase later but many times these transactions get lost in life.

- Be careful of those who support Luigi.

Doing this could affect your seller ratings.

I would message the buyer and offer to cancel.

The buyer can purchase when they are able to accept shipments.

There is no place you can buy and ask the seller to hold your item for a month.

The buyer can have the item held at the PO or picked up by a friend or delivered to an address where there is someone to accept.
