APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

I posted this earlier to the thread of appreciation for nobodys*perfect, but thought it would be only right to post this as a new thread since that thread was an older one, although it had just dropped off in the last few days, many may have disregarded it due to it being up for a month.  It seems a poor way for me to express my admiration, respect,  and gratitude, by posting in a stale thread.  So here we go.

Thank you to Community Mentors for their untiring work on the Member to Member Support Boards, in addition to all the other Boards such as Selling, Bidding/Buying, Shipping and Return, Payments, My Account, Seller Hub, Mobile App, etc.

I understand from a Community Mentor that these people have quotas for their participation on the Member to Member Boards to retain their Mentor status.  They spend a lot of time there.

So they not only post on the Member to Member Boards, they post on other Boards as well.  That they help on other Boards in addition to the Member to Member Boards is awesome!

In addition to this, they adhere to high standards of performance and behavior so as to be good examples.

My thanks to the Mentors who have been so supportive to me.

A big round of applause here!Smiley Happy  I  hope you will join me in expressing appreciation and I thank you for sharing your thoughts most sincerely.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

Then it probably wasn't appropriate to refer to it at all.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

Thanks, City. That's why I asked my question of maybe this particular thread the OP referenced (narrative only)  had "problems" and therefore cannot be reposted. Good to know and I get your message. Loved the War & Peace reference. I am probably close to that and only having been posting a year. lol.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

Thank you but since I noted no names and it was all anonymously, it was allowed.  I simply referred to the situation.  Names or links aren't going to make these things any more true than they already are, and the situations may be taken at face value.  IOW while names and links are not appropriate, mentioning a situation discreetly is, and those situations do have bearing.  They don't deserve to be swept under the rug and disregarded.  I trust you see the difference.

Again, thank you.

I don't know if I'd go that far.  It's a topic that has plagued us for years, in part because in addition to being difficult to discuss, it's also historically been inconsistently treated by pinks, mods and others.   Further, I've seen (in the much distant past)  pinks (now blues) try to tackle it head on and end up tearing their hair out, getting angry at absolutely everybody, and worse.

But I've always held out hope (dimmer by the passing years) that there can be peace in the valley.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

I was not saying that you mentioning it wasn't allowed.  I meant that if you are not going to back up what you are referring to then it is best not to mention it. I don't think that you would be breaking any rules by linking to it but if you are uncomfortable about doing so then as I said, you probably shouldn't have brought it up.

No need to thank me.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

You can't mention something and then sweep it under the rug. A pm to moo with the link to the thread is the correct and appropriate thing to do. Not all of us read every thread on these boards. I'm unaware of many situations that occur until someone brings them to my attention.

On the political boards - unless you back up your claims - no one takes them for fact - as it should be as we are faceless people behind a keyboard who can pretend to be anything we want and most people wouldn't know the difference.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

Thank you. Many things are accepted without proof~many different standards. People can believe or not; their choice.  I brought it up so that is hardly sweeping it under the rug and people only see what they want to see.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

Sadly this thread has strayed so far from the original intention, I reiterate the original sentiment, which was to shine a light on Community Mentors and those who post helpfully and to thank and appreciate them.

Thank you.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

I'm pleased to see this thread on the Community Platform Feedback board. I think it's the perfect board for threads thanking or acknowledging eBay staff, volunteers, Community Mentors, mods, blues, administrators, other posters, et al.

Thanks, city, definitely with you on that one!

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

All other recognition, Most Helpfuls, Most Solutions occurred on the Selling Board, so logically, this would follow suit. And those threads were posted by Alan and Brian.

But thank you.

Re: APPLAUSE FOR COMMUNITY MENTORS

If you mention a thread about a "back and forth" between 2 posters as an example of a "problem", it would be fairly easy to figure out who they were talking about, thus naming and shaming, imo.

General comment and a question:

...I wasn't aware of what the "mentor" program was until just recently when Alan spoke about it...I believe it was during a eBay Staff Chat.  I was aware of the Member to Member Board and how it works and how responders are chosen to answer questions, but I had no idea that the Member to Member Board was called the Mentor Program, which to me means that someone will "train" a person for a period of time ~ I think "expert or advisor, or specialist or even wonk, lol  (according to the thesaurus Smiley Very Happy) would be a better fit, imo ~ Wonk Program?  Well, maybe not!

There are bound to be disagreements and dust ups between responders on a site of this size...I just wish that more members would quit using the report button as a form of revenge ~ there is a difference between being rude and being blunt.  This past year the boards have become awfully "vanilla" ~ nothing wrong with being "good" but there are times when too much "kumbaya" is just too much.

Question...when the Member to Member board first came about, it was noted that M2M responders would have their IDs bold highlighted...like this

hidy-hoo..............unhighlighted

hidy-hoo

If you look closely at the IDs, you can see who is a member of the M2M board...but, Castle, your ID is also highlighted and yet you aren't a member of M2M...is there another reason for bold highlight on your ID, enquiring minds want to know, lol!Smiley Very Happy

How much better life would be, if a liar's pants really did catch fire!
