I FEEL THIS 1099K DELAY IS A GOOD THING the entire plan is just a bad idea.

WHY? I have being eBaying for 25 years now. I only have 2700 FEEDBACKS a 100% But only 2700. That is about 1000 feedbacks a year. That is really not much. I live in a small resort community and 25 years ago the entre area closed down for the winter. Well there was this little start up company also started 25 years ago called eBay!  A Idea for selling their PEZ dispensers. I'm sure taxes was not on their minds at the time and they may of just needed money. 

So during the off season I started selling things around the house and it did help put food on the table and helped pay rent and for other goods and services as needed. So in 25 years I used the system only as needed.

I know there are other folks around the country that need and use this platform as well. And I hate to lose it or see it in ruins.

 When you open the door and start to try and MICRO MANAGE it. It opens the door to a whole lot of problems THAT FOLKS AND THE IRS just don't need. AS SIMPLE AS CHASING CORRECT INFORMATION.

I was once told computers are only as smart as the as the folks entering the information. 

It's easy to turn a hundred dollars into ten thousand dollars on paper by misplacing a DOT. 

DO YOU REALLY TRUST eBay to provide CORRECT INFORMATION ? A friend of mine and fellow eBayer just went over numbers for sales on eBay. WHAT A MESS. They show BIN numbers $800 as SOLD PRICES when the final sale was only a few dollars THINK ABOUT THIS.

DELAYS DELAYS SHUT DOWN OF ACCOUNTS SLOW DOWNS OF TAX RETURNS And a whole army of control  freaks running the show with no end in sight.

eBay will need COUSTOMER SERVICE SERVICE STAFF To RUN CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF to Control CUSTOMER SERVICE 

The SAME with the IRS. We are talking about a major change that affects THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS by lowering this 20000 dollar standard AND THEN WHATS NEXT. Yard sales lawn mowing baby sitting. A good baby sitter can earn thousands.  

Just think of you running a REAL BUSINESS But now because of this flood of nickel dime sales, things get so confused your own taxes become screwed up. DON'T THINK IT CAN HAPPEN.

Let me end by saying WE ALL SEE IT, AND HAVE SEEN IT. And this is at the 20000 level. If you have not seen it JUST WATCH THE NEWS. 

It's almost like the dot com bubble. WORD WAS THEY WERE MAKING MILLIONS. When you peal back the covers. There really was no money. 

END OF THIS STORY I will say this whole idea has made me really look at what I was doing on eBay as I pealed back the covers. There really is no money being made. It's a LOT OF WORK, HOWEVER IT WAS A NEEDED SOURCE OF NEGATIVE INCOME AS NEEDED OVER THE COURSE OF 25 years of a UP AND DOWN PEACE AND WAR DAYS ECONOMY. 

A SINGLE eBayer STAFF IS YOU. YOU ARE THE > Manager, Product sourcing AD RESEARCH SPECIALIST, AD PRODUCER, THE WRITER,  THE PHOTOGRAPHER, WAREHOUSING JUNK, THE COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT, PACKING & WRAPPING SPECIALIST, RSPONSIBLE FOR PACKING AND OFFICE SUPPLIES, BOX BUILDER, AND SHIPPER to SHIPPER RUNNER. RETURNS DEPARTMENT. And getting rid of over stock and failed product listings. And I'm sure you can add a few more into this mix. And you sold a $20.00 item YOU HOPE. 

And lets add how many people you help to support who earn PAYCHECKS. As they say every action has a reaction.  

AND NOW THIS POOR PERSON IS THE SUBJECT OF ADDED STRESS  OF SELLING OVER $600 for a entire year. 

I SAY RISE THE CEILING TO 25000,00         .

What is "the entire plan" that "is just a bad idea"?  
Do you mean the "plan" of requiring Americans to pay tax on their income?  

The Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America has been in effect for 109 years, since February 3, 1913.

It says:  "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."     (Emphasis added.)  

The IRS does not allow you to omit up to $600.00 (now $20,000) from your income (money coming in whether from a job or passive income or selling stuff from around your home on eBay) just because you didn't get a piece of paper from eBay saying how much money you earned.  

If you stopped selling this year when you earned $599.99, you have only cut off a source of income for yourself, by yourself.

1000 feedbacks  100 feedbacks a year at the rate that feedback is sometimes receiver (at least in my categories) could equate to 400-500, or more sales a year.

2700 feedback. Sounds like you had lot-o-stuff (8-10K items) lying around that you have sold.

Another misinformed seller that thought there was a $20,000 threshold for income reporting 🙂 Never was, still isn't, and won't be. As has been posted.....................   getting a 1099 is not/has not been the determining factor (except for the misinformed, and the scofflaws) for income reporting.

Some states had/have $600-1000 thresholds for 1099's.  Perhaps your state will enact one.

$800 IS THE CORRECT amount of the GROSS sale; the GROSS amount that went to that person and therefore the CORRECT amount to report to the IRS.

It's up to that 'person' to then 'write off' shipping, fees, original costs etc. 

The entire 'change' is HORRIBLE!! Now those that sold 190 things for $19000 can NOT report that amount on their taxes.

Do you have any idea what percentage of people will do that??

Look at like SPEEDING Everybody speeds at some point in their driving life

Now lets lower the speed limit from 70 MPH to 25 MPH And HIRE 87000 Police men to patrol  this section of HWY. and setting up speed traps.  You may think you making a lot writing lots of tickets and fines and you are and making a very upset population as well

But then NOBODY WANTS TO DRIVE ON YOUR ROAD ANYMORE BUT you still have 87000 new police on payroll Well one your going to fine something for them to do. 

All you did is upset a lot of people. 

And to your point If there is no DIFFERENCE WHY DO IT. Not only did you slow the traffic down. YOU STOPPED folks from USING IT! And that road supported a lot of traffic and business. 

 WHY WOULD YOU CONCIDER DOING SOMETHING IF IT DOES NOT MAKE A DEFFERENCE?

And in all those years of selling without reporting your eBay income or paying any taxes due on it, you had an unfair advantage over eBay sellers who played it straight.   I wish the IRS had stuck to its guns on this.

I think news reporting on this change is quite lacking.  Too many sellers are interpreting this IRS delay as a reprieve on reporting their sales on their tax filings. It is only a temporary reprieve for the third parties responsible for issuing 1099ks.  Big difference.

Audits were made and back taxes were owed long before any third party issued 1099ks for any amount.

YOU SEE. Just how easy a a little mistake can change 2500 into 25000. It's so easy.

 I know TAXES are important to any country. In my way of viewing this is when are you making MONEY! When are you Making a PROFIT. When are you just MAKING ENDS MEET! 

  Are you making a NEGATIVE INCOME OR A POSITIVE INCOME And at what point do you want to police this. Paying somebody $50 to $75000 per year COST TAX DOLLARS Just like a real business you need to consider this. Of course as we look at the mess our elected officials have made for us with a PRIVATE COMPANY like the FEDERAL RESERVE  Saying no problem we can always print more. 

I'm starting to wonder just who the FEDERAL RESERVE IS SERVING as well as the COMEX. I'm getting a spooky feeling that one day ALL OUR ELECTED OFFICALS will one day throw their hands up like that lady in ENGLAND just did and walked off the job..  And with the MILLIONS they made because, they are good investors JUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY and stick us holding the bag of a 97 trillion dollar MESS THEY MADE FOR US and MAKING MORE. 

 I NEVER EXPECTED THAT TO HAPPEN IN ENGLAND AS WELL. and they let Boris off the hook and he don't want the JOB back. JUST SAYING

When eBay came along in the early days I found you could take ANYTHING and make a Auction out of it. I never had the type of luck like the CHEEZE TOAST PERSON had with a Ebay Auction. Just to name one.

eBay to me was never about MAKING MONEY It was about just getting by in very tough times.

eBaying is Not what I really wanted to do. It was a option. to me it's too much work for too little money.

A lot of people don't realize there is a country within this country that operates at another level. It can make you or break you.

And this is the ISSUE MAKING MONEY. If I was making money I would have no problem paying fair tax IF I WAS MAKING MONEY! 

 I would be living in a nice gated community Playing golf and spending my weekends on my 40 foot boat fishing and enjoying true freedom I'm not sure I could drive by the HOMELESS CAMPS in my $100.000 dollar TASLA 

 Anyway that is the life MONEY and MAKING MONEY. GETTING BY Is just MAKING ENDS MEET I have seen both worlds.

If your selling personal items at a loss it’s a waste of time and paper to file.  Waste of the IRS’s time as well. Audits cost them money. 

I do wonder though if somehow this delay will cause a sweep of accounts when they finally do issue the 1099’s. 

Such as a seller sells say 15k worth of items in 2023 yet filed nothing in 2022.  I would think if someone’s not filing on true income, they ought to get their business in order this year. 

Wouldn’t surprise me if the IRS has a back door into the ebay system to run reports and do data checks. 

I prefer not to stress about it. I claim it all and do the deductions on the items I am entitled to.
